Founded by John Bryan Bowman as the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Kentucky in 1865, the largest school in the Commonwealth didnt officially become the University of Kentucky until 1916. Student activities picked up steam as the football program started in the 1890s, followed by womens basketball in 1902 and mens basketball in 1903.
